Chad Smith & John Travolta Join Foo Fighters In New York

By Andy Kahn Jul 16, 2018 8:00 am PDT

Foo Fighters performed Saturday night at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. The band brought out Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chad Smith and actor John Travolta, as well as vocalist Luke Spiller of opening act The Struts during Saturday’s concert.

Frontman Dave Grohl was going through his typical-mid set band introductions when bassist Nate Mendel riffed on Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust.” Grohl then instructed Mendel to “give them a fucking real bass line,” and the latter began to play “You’re The One That I Want” from the movie Grease as Travolta – the 1978 film’s star – briefly danced on stage while Grohl sang the song’s first verse.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins handed over his sticks to Grohl for a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” that saw Spiller come back out to help Hawkins on vocals. Grohl then gave the drummer throne over to Smith so Hawkins could sing lead on a cover of Faces’ “Stay With Me.”
