Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Jennifer Hudson are the first three artists confirmed to headline New York City’s Central Park Homecoming Concert. The show is expected to take place this August to celebrate the return of NYC’s economy in the wake of the pandemic.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the participation of Springsteen, Simon and Hudson with more artists and full details to be revealed soon. “It is going to be a great moment for the city marking our rebirth, marking our comeback and it’s going to be one of the greatest Central Park concerts in history,” de Blasio said at a press conference. “This is something you do not want to miss, this is something for the ages.”
While de Blasio didn’t confirm when the concert will be held on Central Park’s 13-acre The Great Lawn, he previously mentioned August 21 as a potential date. The mayor tapped legendary music industry veteran Clive Davis to organize the event.
An in-person audience of 60K is expected for a concert that will be televised worldwide. Bruce recently kicked off his latest Springsteen On Broadway run at Jujamcyn’s St. James Theatre. Paul Simon followed his farewell tour in 2018 with performances at San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival and as part of Chris Thile’s Live From Here radio program in 2019.
