Apples in Stereo, prepare for dates with The Icicles and Coyote Bones
Announce first time ever vinyl releases

“Faring fabulously was the Apples’ opening act Casper & The Cookies. With their caustic lyrics and chipper demeanor (“Sid from Central Park”) the false-eyelash-wearing quartet came off smarmily precocious; like someone rolled the entire cast of The Royal Tenenbaums film into one band. But some razor-sharp guitar parts, a few off-kilter harmonies, noisy keyboards, and neatly compact tunes that blossomed with quickly complex bridges (“Kiss a Friend”) made Casper best in show.” –Philly Inquirer
Casper & the Cookies are finally home from a rowdy run of dates with friends Apples in Stereo, but they won’t stay put for long. The Athens, GA delicacies head back out on the road to join forces with another sugary sweet band on the Fanatic roster, The Icicles. Judging from the amount of positive feedback the Cookies got from the last tour, in combination with the buzz that is beginning to build in press and at radio for The Icicles, this tour is destined to be a hot one. Omaha sensation Coyote Bones, one of the newest additions to the Fanatic roster, will also join the Cookies on a couple of dates.
Casper & The Cookies won over audiences across the country as the opening tour support for and Elephant Six founders The Apples in Stereo. With influential magazines like URB, Under The Radar, and CMJ, singing Casper’s praises, the bad has become one of the most talked about groups to come out of the Classic City in a few years. Once you get past the tooth achingly sweet name, you’ll find that Jason NeSmith (aka Casper Fandango, ex Of Montreal-er and go-to Athens producer) dreams up poppy yet intelligent, thought provoking lyrics. Mix those lyrics with riveting guitar licks, home-made sounds like the slamming of cupboards and the snapping of green beans, and a good helping of the Cookies tight rhythm section (consisting of Casper’s wife and bassist Kay Stanton, ex-Glands’ drummer Joe Rowe, and guitarist Jim Hicks), and you’ve got yourself a great recipe for a tasty full-length record (The Optimist’s Club), and a satisfying live show.
For all of you vinyl nerds, the Cookies have some exciting news. 2007 will mark the first time ever that the band has had any of its music appear on vinyl, and not one, but four vinyl releases will soon be available. The first will be a currently untitled one-sided 12″ with a special silkscreen print on the reverse, to be released by Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records on June 19. The track listing of the EP is set to include new recordings and rearrangements of “Krötenwanderung” and “The Optimist’s Credo,” as well as new material. This release will be limited to 200 copies, and for the turntable-deficient, the package includes a CD-R version of the record with extra tracks. Happy Happy Birthday To Me’s Singles Club is also well under way, and will be releasing a Casper & The Cookies split with Marbles, the solo project by Robert Schneider of The Apples In Stereo.
Next up, Olympia label People In A Position To Know will release a vinyl version of the Casper & The Cookies 2006 release, The Optimist’s Club. The record will feature the same track listing as the CD version issue, along with a bonus track, “Stratosphere,” and new artwork. This pressing will be limited to 500 copies and will be available July 17. This fall, People In A Position To Know’s subscription club will offer up a split 8″ release with a Casper track recorded on tour and packaged in a sleeve knitted by bassist Kay Stanton. Limited to 50 copies, hand pressed – get ’em while they last!
