Camera Obscura stopped by KEXP Studios on June 7 to capture a Live on KEXP session. The band performed songs from their first album in 11 years, Look to the East, Look to the West.

The new record follows Camera Obscura’s 2013 album, Desire Lines. During recording for the latter, longtime keyboardist Carey Lander was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and sadly died in 2015. The band led by Tracyanne Campbell went on hiatus following Lander’s death but returned in 2019 with touring keyboardist Donna Maciocia in tow.

Maciocia has since become a full-time member of Camera Obscura and contributed to the band’s new album, Look to the East, Look to the West, which arrived on May 3. A month later, Campbell, Maciocia, guitarist Kenny McKeeve, bassist Gavin Dunbar, drummer Louis Abbott and trumpeter Tim Cronin came to KEXP Studios in Seattle to perform songs from the record.

The band kicked off the session with Look to the East, Look to the West opening track, “Liberty Print.” Camera Obscura continued with “Denon” and “The Light Nights.” The session came to a close with Look to the East, Look to the West’s title track.
