Bruce Springsteen Sits-In With U2 At Madison Square Garden

U2 closed their eight-show run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden as well as the North American leg of their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE on Friday night. The Irish band continued a theme featured at many of their recent MSG gigs by welcoming a guest to share the stage, this time tapping Bruce Springsteen to perform two songs.

Springsteen had last played with a Bono-less U2 in December of last year, filling in for the frontman who was unable to appear after suffering a serious biking injury before the band’s performance in Times Square for World AIDS Day. After a typical set that saw Bono lead the band through many of their well-known songs mixed with several cuts from their most recent LP Songs Of Innocence, Springsteen emerged during the five-song encore.

Before being introduced by Bono who told the audience Springsteen was, “Someone to give us a reason to be a band, gave a reason to continue to be a band and someone who gave us a level we could never reach but always aspire to,” The Boss took the MSG stage to help out on U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” which melded into a cover of “Stand By Me.”
