It appears Bruce Springsteen is involved in a feature film project on the making of his 1982 album, Nebraska. The news was first reported by Roger Friedman in his entertainment blog, Showbiz 411.

Friedman’s sources indicated that Springsteen is consulting on the Nebraska project with director Scott Cooper, who helmed the 2010 film Crazy Heart about a washed up country artist starring Jeff Bridges. Crazy Heart garnered Bridges an Oscar and also took home the Best Song Academy Award.

Additionally, a report by World of Reel noted that the screenplay may be adapted from Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska by Warren Zanes. Nebraska arrived on September 30, 1982.

The record began as a collection of demos for the E Street Band, captured by Springsteen on a four-track cassette tape recorder. Bruce, however, decided to release the songs as they were.

Nebraska deals with dark subject matter. Springsteen has stated that he was experiencing depression at the time. The stripped down 10-song set opens with the title track, a first person narrative on the killing spree of 19-year-old Charles Starkweather which took place across Nebraska and Wyoming in late 1957 and early 1958 leaving 11 people dead.

Nebraska also contains the stellar song “Atlantic City,” a look at the allure of the criminal underworld on the blue collar main character. Among the so-called “Electric Nebraska” demos that didn’t make it onto the 1982 album were songs that would land on Springsteen’s landmark 1984 album, Born In The U.S.A., including the title track.
