Bruce Springsteen assembled the E Street Band on December 7, 2010 at The Carousel House in Asbury Park, New Jersey for the band’s first live performance in over a year. Springsteen led the group and special guests through the holiday classic “Blue Christmas” to close out the concert and pro-shot video of the cover has been shared on The Boss’ YouTube channel.
“Blue Christmas” was written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson in 1948 and was originally recorded by Doye O’Dell. Elvis Presley famously released a cover of the song in 1957. Springsteen based his rendition of “Blue Christmas” on Presley’s version. The show in Asbury Park was filmed for a webcast and official video release. Bruce, the E Street Band and violinist David Lindley were augmented by a full horn section for a number of songs at The Carousel House including “Blue Christmas.”
