Bruce Hornsby put out a reimagined take on Chuck Berry’s “Too Much Monkey Business” today. The track appears on 'Flicted, a new studio album from the pianist, singer and songwriter set to arrive on May 27 via Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers.

Co-produced with Tony Berg, ‘Flicted is the culmination of a trilogy featuring studio album based on film “cues” Hornsby wrote for Spike Lee-directed movies. The 12-track LP follows 2019’s Absolute Zero and 2020’s Non-Secure Connection. Additional production work came from Ariel Rechtshaid and Wayne Pooley.

Bruce initially accompanied the new album announcement with “Sidelines,” a track from the album featuring singer-songwriter Blake Mills and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig. Danielle Haim (HAIM), Rob Moose (yMusic), Z. Berg and Ethan Grushka also contributed to ‘Flicted.

Hornsby’s version of “Too Much Monkey Business” sounds nothing like the original penned and released by Chuck Berry in 1956. “‘Too Much Monkey Business’ is a first for me, a cover song on a studio record,” explained Bruce Hornsby. “Leon Russell and I arranged this Chuck Berry song years ago and I wanted to revisit what we did and give it an update.”
