Singer-songwriter Brittney Spencer is part of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series celebration of Black Music Month. In the latest installment, Spencer performs songs from her 2024 debut album, My Stupid Life.
Spencer was backed by a band consisting of keyboardist Martin “Harrison” Finks, drummer Jordan West, bassist John McNally, guitarist Omri Skop and vocalist Abbey Cone. The six-song set was made up entirely of songs from My Stupid Life.

“I love this moment because I get to just tell y’all in real time how nervous I was to put it out,” Spencer said during her set. “This album, I felt like it really cracked me open and it made me be more honest … it made me face a lot about myself and my life.
Spencer offered takes on the My Stupid Life tracks “Bigger Than The Song,” “If You Say So,” “Night In,” “The Last Time,” “My First Rodeo” and “I Got Time,” barely stopping between songs.
