Brandi Carlile was joined by Sheryl Crow and the surviving members of Soundgarden as part of her headlining performance at The Gorge Amphitheatre on Saturday night. Carlile’s home state set at the George, Washington venue came after Crow and Amythyst Kiah each took the stage to open the festivities.
Sheryl Crow was aided by Brandi Carlile for “If It Makes You Happy” during her performance. Brandi then took the stage at The Gorge with her band consisting of guitarist Tim Hanseroth, bassist Phil Hanseroth, multi-instrumentalist Shooter Jennings, drummer Chris Powell, percussionist Jeff Haynes, violinist Nikki Shorts, violist Kyleen King and cellist Josh Neumann.
Carlile and company kicked off their set with “Looking Out,” “Hard Way Home” and “The Story” before performing “The Eye,” one of five songs from Brandi’s Grammy-winning 2018 album By The Way, I Forgive You played at The Gorge. The singer-songwriter followed “The Mother” and “Dying Day” with “You And Me On The Rock” from her forthcoming In These Silent Days LP. Brandi’s set also included “Right On Time” and “This Time Tomorrow” from the album, which is due out via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records on October 1.
Sheryl Crow emerged towards the middle of Brandi’s set for a cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” Then, Carlile brought out the surviving Soundgarden members late in the concert for Soundgarden classics “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed.” Guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd were introduced by Brandi as “my friends” and “one of the best rock and roll bands in the world.”
