Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will issue a new album By The Way, I Forgive You on February 16. Another single from the LP, “The Mother,” has been shared in advance of the record’s upcoming release.
Following-up 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter, the 10-track By The Way, I Forgive You was produced by Shooter Jennings and Dave Cobb and recorded at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A. The album marks the first release for Carlile under Cobb’s Elektra Records imprint Low Country Sound.
Carlile was joined during the recording sessions by her longtime sibling bandmates, bassist Tim Hanseroth and guitarist Phil Hanseroth. Jenning and Cobb also contributed as did drummer Chris Powell, cellist Josh Neumann and French horn player John Mark Painter, with string arrangements and conducting provided by the late Paul Buckmaster.
Carlile issued the following statement regarding the original track “The Mother””
“Welcome to the end of being alone inside your mind…” To some, this sounds like the realization of their most sacred dreams—true companionship. For some, this sacrifice is too much to bear and requires its own brand of radical forgiveness. For the most part and for me, it’s equal measures of both. I am not just a mother, but it’s all that I am.
