Brandi Carlile Welcomes Sarah McLachlan, Lucius, Celisse & Others At The Gorge

Brandi Carlile kicked off her Beyond These Silent Days Tour with a guest-filled concert at The Gorge on Saturday. Carlile and her band were joined by Sarah McLachlan, Lucius, Celisse and more at the scenic Washington state venue.

The home state singer-songwriter kicked off her 25-song performance with “Broken Horses,” one of seven tunes from 2021’s In These Silent Days to make the setlist at The Gorge. Carlile then led her band through “Mainstream Kid” off 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter and the title track from 2007’s The Story. Next came a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” before Lucius’ Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig added backing vocals on “You And Me On The Rock.”

Brandi continued her set at The Gorge with the live debut of In These Silent Days standout “Mama Werewolf.” Next came classic “The Eye” and Carlile leading the crowd through “Happy Birthday To You” in honor of her daughter, Evangeline Ruth Carlile’s upcoming birthday. After “The Mother,” Celisse emerged to play guitar on “Raise Hell” and covers of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and Radiohead’s “Creep.”

The Lucius vocalists returned a few songs later to back Brandi on the first live “Sinners, Saints And Fools” and a take on “Alone” by i-Ten. A run featuring “The Joke,” “Turpentine” and “Party Of One” closed out Saturday’s main set.

Brandi Carlile returned to the stage with Sarah McLachlan in tow to start an extended encore with versions of McLachlan’s “Do What You Have To Do” and “Angel.” McLachlan stuck around and was joined by Celisse, Laessig and Wolfe in adding to The Highwomen song “Crowded Table.” The Highwomen cut also featured Sista Strings and Kyleen King from Carlile’s band on vocals. Next, youngsters Evangeline Ruth Carlile and Josephine Hanseroth were among contributors to a family-centric “Hold Out Your Hand” before Brandi ended the night with “Stay Gentle” and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
