wrapped up a two-night stand at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Wednesday. The Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist and his band included the Wolf Bros debut of “Terrapin Station Suite’s” final four sections in last night’s show after performing the first two parts of the sequence on Tuesday at the scenic venue.
Weir, pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane kicked off the evening with a brief jam that led into “The Music Never Stopped,” which gave way to “Easy Answers.” A gorgeous “Mission In The Rain” came next ahead of “Only A River” from Bobby’s 2016 solo album, Blue Mountain.

The five-piece returned to the Grateful Dead songbook for “Friend Of The Devil,” “Looks Like Rain” and “Cassidy” to end the frame. “Cassidy” featured the Wolf Pack horn and strings section consisting of trombonist Adam Theis, trumpeter Brian Switzer, woodwind specialist Sheldon Brown, violinist Mads Tolling and cellist Alex Kelly.
Bobby, Jeff, Don, Greg and Jay opened last night’s second set with John Phillips’ “Me & My Uncle.” The Wolf Pack then returned and stayed around for the rest of the show. “Estimated Prophet” was followed by a sequence featuring a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” within “Eyes Of The World” that the band debuted during an April livestream concert at TRI Studios.

The full ensemble, who played “Lady With A Fan” and “Terrapin Station” for the first time on Tuesday, then premiered the rest of the suite that formed the title track from the Dead’s 1977 studio album as “Terrapin Transit” flowed into “At A Siding” ahead of “Terrapin Flyer/Refrain.” Next, Weir and company took it down a notch with “Days Between.” The beloved pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider” closed out last night’s second set. A stirring “Ripple” served as evening’s encore.
Bob Weir & Wolf Bros now head to Vail to headline GoPro Mountains Of Music on Friday and Saturday. Livestreams can be purchased through nugs.net.
