Bob Weir and Wolf Bros kicked off their second-ever tour on Thursday night at the State Theatre in Ithaca, New York. The Grateful Dead guitarist, bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane mixed staples from their inaugural tour with a pair of Wolf Bros debuts.

The trio opened with a run of “The Music Never Stopped” into “Easy Answers” into “The Music Never Stopped” they played a few times last fall. Next, Weir strapped on an acoustic and mentioned his capo had been stolen by a “thievin’ fucking jabba” but that the band had their “crack crew” on the case before starting up “Peggy-O.” Bobby & Co. then reached back into his back catalog for the first “Bombs Away” since 2014. The guitarist warned the crowd they may not even want to hear the song he wrote with John Perry Barlow for his 1978 solo album Heaven Help The Fool. Another rarity that hadn’t been performed in five years followed, as the three-piece delivered “The Winners” – a song based on words by Rudyard Kipling. Bob Weir & Wolf Bros ended the set with a run of Grateful Dead favorites “Black-Throated Wind,” “Weather Report Suite” and “Let It Grow.”

Last night’s second set got underway with a nicely extended “Scarlet Begonias.” The trio played “Scarlet” at a slow pace and took the jam out there before landing on “Passenger.” From there, Bobby led the group on a sequence of “Jack Straw,” “Cassidy,” “Wharf Rat” and “The Other One.” Surprisingly, “The Other One” was the least jammed of the four. Weir then revved into a passionate version of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” ahead of the “Not Fade Away” set closer. “Not Fade Away” featured cool “Bird Song” teases from Bobby. For the encore, the trio went back to the Dylan catalog for an “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” encore. Listen to an audience recording captured by Steven Weld:
