Bob Weir Joins Lukas Nelson & Friends At Sweetwater Music Hall

Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir was Lukas Nelson & Friends’ surprise guest on Monday night during a benefit concert held at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California. Proceeds from the show went towards Music Heals International and the organization’s goal of bringing music and musicians to the children of Haiti and to other parts of the world.

Nelson’s band for the evening’s second set consisted of Haitian guitarist Paul Beaubrun along with ALO members Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Steve Adams and Ezra Lipp. Lukas went solo for the first portion of the night, which included a take on his own “Forget About Georgia” and his father, Willie Nelson‘s “Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.”

Next, Lukas and Bobby performed as a duo for a segment of the show that featured covers of Bob Dylan’s “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding),” “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” and “Desolation Row.” While Weir wasn’t on hand for Nelson & Friends’ rendition of The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek,” Bobby added to swaths of the full-band set. Weir led his own “Cassidy” and contributed to the band’s versions of such songs as Bob Dylan & The Band’s “I Shall Be Released,” Neil Young’s “Down By The River,” Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” and George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord.”
