Bob Weir Guests With David Nelson Band In Alaska

By Scott Bernstein Mar 20, 2017 11:47 am PDT

While David Nelson is battling colon cancer, his David Nelson Band went through with a trip to Alaska this past weekend featuring special guest Bob Weir standing in for the group’s namesake. The DNB was joined by the Grateful Dead guitarist, as well as vocalist Katie Skene, for portions of Thursday, Friday and Saturday night shows at the Sitzmark at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska.

Each of the concerts featured the same format as the DNB took the stage for a few songs without any guests to kick off the evening. Then, Skene would lead the group before the band emptied the stage for solo Bob Weir performances. After a few solo acoustic songs from Bobby, the rest of the David Nelson Band would return to back him for the remainder of the show.

Bob Weir’s time on stage with the David Nelson Band featured a mix of songs from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire as well as tunes from the guitarist’s recently released Blue Mountain LP. Skene emerged at various points throughout Weir’s performances to add harmony vocals.

Donations to Nelson’s medical fund can be made here.
