Bob Weir Performs At ‘American Beauty’ Rex Foundation Benefit
Bob Weir stopped into this year’s Rex Benefit, entitled “American Beauty,” at The Fillmore in San Francisco. Bobby, a board member of the Grateful Dead charity, joined an all-star cast including Jackie Greene, Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Todd Sheaffer and more. The ace band led by Lebo and dubbed Lebo And The Arrows Of Neon would perform the iconic Grateful Dead album and other Dead classics with Bobby joining in.
The second set saw Weir jumping up for “Loser,” “New Speedway Boogie,” the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider” and “Touch Of Grey,” the latter of which saw a picture of Robert Hunter looking over the proceedings.
Lebo And The Arrows Of Neon — which featured Tim Carbone, Todd Sheaffer and John Skehan of Railroad Earth joining the ALO guitarist, T-Sisters, Jackie Greene on keys and more — played American Beauty in its entirety to kick things off. The band then brought Weir out for a very “Bird Song” sounding jam that headed into “Truckin’.” Next up, Bobby delivered his classic closer, “Sugar Magnolia” into “Sunshine Daydream” to put an exclamation point on the festivities.
