Bob Dylan’s Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour rolled into Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday. Bob borrowed another page from the book of Chuck Berry with a debut cover of the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s “Roll Over Beethoven” at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
Dylan’s second stop on the Fall 2023 leg of the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour saw the Nobel Laureate in Chuck Berry’s hometown of St. Louis. Bob kicked off the concert with the Father Of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s iconic song, “Johnny B. Goode,” first time played at a Dylan show. To close, Bob returned to Chuck’s “Nadine (Is It You?),” a song he last performed in St. Louis June 17, 1988, as per SetlistFM stats.

Dylan slotted “Roll Over Beethoven” — released on Chess Records in 1956 — into the 13th song slot of his set in Fort Myers, a spot he has often fit in covers on the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour. Following some bluesy musings on the piano from Bob, those unmistakable Chuck Berry licks came screaming through Suncoast Credit Union Arena and it was off to the races.

The rest of the set stuck to the familiar Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour format with nine of the 10 songs from the 2020 album of the same name performed along with older favorites like opener “Watching The River Flow.” Classics included “Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine,” “When I Paint My Masterpiece” — which Dylan recently altered purportedly in response to a heckler — and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight.”
