A massive new box set of archival live Bob Dylan performances Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings will be released by Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings on November 11. The comprehensive 36-disc set features every known recording that exists of Dylan’s famed 1966 Tour.

According to the announcement the vast majority of the box set is made up of previously unreleased – official or bootleg – live performances of Dylan during the controversial era when he began incorporating electric guitar and a full band into his shows. On most tracks he’s backed by a band featuring future The Band members guitarist Robbie Robertson, bassist Rick Danko and keyboardists Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel as well as drummer Mickey Jones. All of the songs contained in the set except for a rendition of the traditional “Baby, Let Me Follow You Down” are Dylan originals.

“While doing the archival research for The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12, last year’s box set of Dylan’s mid-60s studio sessions, we were continually struck by how great his 1966 live recordings really are,” said Legacy Recordings president Adam Block. “The intensity of Bob’s live performances and his fantastic delivery of these songs in concert add another insightful component in understanding and appreciating the musical revolution Bob Dylan ignited some 50 years ago.”

The material on Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings was sourced from soundboards, CBS Records mobile recordings and audience tapes from appearances made in the United States, Europe and Australia. A companion release, The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert, featuring Dylan’s previously-mislabeled appearance at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London on May 26, 1966 will be issued as a 2-CD and 2-LP album on November 26.
