There was good news from the Blackberry Smoke camp yesterday, as the band revealed drummer Brit Turner was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday following surgery to remove a brain tumor this past Monday. The procedure was “as successful as everyone had hoped,” according to an update posted on social media by the southern rockers.
The drummer entered the hospital last week. “Brit Turner suffered an episode and needed to be taken to the ER,” wrote BBS in a Facebook post detailing the situation on Thursday, November 3. “He was feeling alright but due to the issues from his recent heart attack, his medical team elected to keep him in the hospital and run a series of tests to determine what could have caused the situation. Upon receiving an MRI they found a tumor on his brain in the frontal lobe.”
Blackberry Smoke elected to postpone last Friday’s concert in Montgomery, Alabama as part of a tour honoring the 10th anniversary of their The Whipporwill album. The band went acoustic on Saturday in Jacksonville and returned to the electric format last night in San Antonio. Mike Rizzi filled in for Turner on Wednesday and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
