Blackberry Smoke Drummer Brit Turner Suffers Heart Attack
The band will tour acoustically until Turner rejoins.
Blackberry Smoke drummer has been hospitalized after suffering a serious heart attack at his home in Atlanta on Sunday. The good news is that Brit, currently in stable condition, arrived at the hospital in time for doctors to give him the medical help he needed.
“On Sun AUG 14, brother and drummer, [Brit Turner] suffered a serious heart attack,” wrote Blackberry Smoke in a note on their social feeds. “He was home in ATLANTA and was able to make it to the hospital in time for doctors to provide him as much help as possible. He received a stent in his coronary artery and is now in stable condition.”
The southern rock band recently started a tour with Jamey Johnson and were in the midst of two days off when the incident occurred. A concert slated for tonight (Tuesday, August 16) at Saint Louis Music Park in Maryland Heights, Missouri has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 13. Tickets for the original show will be honored on the new date.
Blackberry Smoke and Jamey Johnson will return to the stage this Thursday, August 18 at WAVE in Wichita, Kansas. BBS will go unplugged for acoustic shows while Brit recuperates.
