The Black Keys shared the new single “The Night Before” and an accompanying video directed by Running Bear. The song is the first preview of the duo’s 13th studio album, No Rain, No Flowers, which will be released later this year.

The duo consisting of guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney recorded the follow-up to 2024’s Ohio Players last summer and fall at their Easy Eye Studios facility. Auerbach and Carney described the forthcoming LP as “an especially personal project for The Black Keys.”

The Black Keys are looking to rebound after a tough 2024. Not only did the band cancel a North American arena tour, they also fired their management.

The new single was penned with Grammy-winning songwriter Daniel Tashian. “The Night Before’ started with a chord progression that Daniel and I came up with and the rest just fell out. It was really collaborative and all came together in about 30 minutes,” Auerbach explained.

The pair decided to approach the process for No Rain, No Flowers differently. “We’ve never really worked with songwriters like that in Nashville. It’s crazy because Daniel was one of the first people I met when I moved to town over a decade ago,” noted Carney. “But we pushed ourselves to bring in some new co-writers, and we really tapped into something cool with Daniel. We’re finishing up the album now and plan to release more tracks leading into the tour.”

The Black Keys’ No Rain No Flowers Tour of North America begins on May 23 in Durant, Oklahoma. Auerbach and Carney will spend three weeks on the road before ending the trek on June 14 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
