The Black Crowes Play Final Concert In 2013

The 2018 installment of the Wanee Festival will feature the debut performance of As The Crow Flies, a group JamBase confirmed earlier this week will be led by Chris Robinson. While Robinson has made some disparaging and controversial remarks regarding his former band and band mates, it appears the vocalist is ready to revisit the music he made as frontman of The Black Crowes.
“Look forward to seeing y’all down at Wanee!,” Robinson told JamBase while confirming his ATCF participation. “We’re gonna have some fun!”
It remains unclear who will join Robinson in ATCF, but a few former members of the Crowes will at Wanee. The Chris Robinson Brotherhood features keyboardist Adam MacDougall and one-time The Black Crowes member Luther Dickinson is set to appear with North Mississippi Allstars.
Chris’ brother Rich Robinson, who is currently fronting The Magpie Salute that also features several Crowes alums (and was criticized by Chris), isn’t expected to be involved but he did recently state, “[Chris] has every right to [play The Black Crowes songs] and if for whatever reason that he’s doing that, he has every right and I wish him well. At the end of the day, although there’s a glaring hypocrisy to the whole thing, he can do that and I wish him well.”
Chris recently revealed an openness to perform The Black Crowes songs, a few of which were incorporated into the setlists of solo acoustic shows he played in June and October. Chris’ final show as an official member of The Black Crowes came on December 14, 2013 at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
The career-spanning setlist that evening included hits such as “Remedy,” “She Talks To Angels” and their arrangement of “Hard To Handle.” The Robinsons, MacDougall, guitarist Jackie Greene, bassist Sven Pipien and drummer Steve Gorman also offered covers of The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and Joe South’s “Hush,” alongside several other Crowes classics. The encore featured the members of the Tedeschi Trucks Band sitting-in on a cover of “Turn On Your Lovelight.”
