The Black Crowes shared a previously unreleased recording of Ann Peebles’ Memphis soul classic, “99 Pounds.” The track is set to land on The Crowes’ upcoming The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion, due out on December 15 via UMe.

The Black Crowes forthcoming box set documents the creation of the rockers’ landmark 1992 sophomore album, The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion. The collection boasts a remastered edition of the original album, a live concert from Houston in 1993 along with previously unreleased outtakes and B-sides.

Among the 14 unreleased recordings in the box set is the “99 Pounds” cover. Memphis soul legend Ann Peebles included “99 Pounds” — written by her husband singer-songwriter Don Bryant — on her 1971 album, Straight From The Heart.
