After joining Widespread Panic at The Chicago Theatre, Billy Strings headed out to suburbia to set up shop at Allstate Arena for a two-show run in Rosemont. The guitarist opted for several unexpected songs over the pair of concerts outside Chicago, including a rarely played Led Zeppelin cover.
The second set on night two surfaced Led Zeppelinās āFour Sticks,ā which marked its eighth performance by Strings and first in more than a year. Strings inserted elements of Led Zeppelinās āThe Oceanā during the āDoinā Things Rightā that followed. The set ended with the first āOn The Southboundā in over a year.
Night twoās first set featured a solo Strings segment that started with the Jamey Johnson-popularized āLonely At The Top.ā He then busted out a solo take on āJohn Henry,ā which was last played in 2023. Strings switched to banjo for a solo edition of āCountry Bluesā and was joined by Billy Failing for āDos Banjos.ā
Fridayās noteworthy setlist inclusions came during the second half of the show. Set two featured Darol Angerās āKey Signatorā for the first time since 2023 and the ninth instance to date. Later in the evening, the encore began with āIn Tall Buildings,ā marking the John Hartford songās first appearance since 2022 (a 258 show gap) and only fifth time overall.
