Singer-songwriter and guitarist Cris Jacobs shared an in-studio video for his song “Poor Davey” featuring Billy Strings. The tune appears on Jacobs’ new album, One Of These Days, which saw The Infamous Stringdusters acting as the “house band.”

The Jerry Douglas-produced One Of These Days arrived on April 26.

“[H]aving a guy like Jerry, a hero of mine who’s so connected to American roots music but has always been an innovator, patting me on the back and saying everything sounded good and that he liked my songs was one of the biggest boosts of encouragement I could have gotten,” Jacobs stated upon announcing the album.

Douglas appears in the new video for “Poor Davey” in his producer role as do The Infamous Stringdusters and featured Billy Strings, who plays guitar and harmonizes with Jacobs on the chorus. The song is based on actual events, detailed in a press release.

[“Poor Davey”] tells the dark tale of young man who grew up in a house where years earlier a teenager murdered his family. Davey’s father also had a sordid past with a criminal record. Jacobs poses the question, “Did the old man or the ghosts play a part, in what poor Davey had done…” after the protagonist commits a murder and steals a car to evade arrest. A heart-pounding, wild chase ensues with police cars and choppers on his tail for a long while before the tragic story comes [to] its conclusion with Davey eventually being apprehended.
