Widespread Panic drummer Duane Trucks was Billy Strings‘ special guest on Tuesday during a benefit concert held at the Georgia Theatre in Athens. The area resident accompanied Strings and his band on a breathtaking version of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” to start his five-song appearance.
Roger Waters and David Gilmour wrote “Fearless” for inclusion on the 1971 Pink Floyd album, Meddle. Billy Strings debuted his cover of the song at a concert held at The Mission Ballroom in Denver on October 14, 2021. Nine additional versions followed leading into Tuesday’s show.

Duane Trucks’ collaboration with Strings, bassist Royal Masat, banjoist Billy Failing, mandolinist Jarrod Walker and fiddler Alex Hargreaves came less than two weeks after his brother, guitarist Derek Trucks, joined the group in Nashville. The drummer also added to “Bringing In The Georgia Mail,” “Running The Route,” “Running” and “All Time Low” in Athens.
