Billy Strings was joined by guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer on Friday night at Brooklyn Bowl. Strings and his band mates then wrapped a two-show stand at the New York City venue on Saturday evening.

“Dust In A Baggie” kicked off Friday’s first of two sets. The opening half of the show also saw takes on “Hollow Heart,” “Highway Hypnosis” and “Must Be Seven” from Strings’ recently issued studio album, Home, as well as covers including Greensky Bluegrass’ “A Letter to Seymour” and a set-closing run of Doc Watson’s “The Train That Carried My Girl From Town” and “Black Mountain Rag” followed by Pearl Jam’s “In Hiding.”

Friday’s second set began with “Everything’s the Same,” followed by a string of covers by the likes of John Hartford, The Monkees, The Stanley Brothers, Jeff Austin and Newgrass Revival. Next came “Dealing Despair,” after which Strings brought out Taz to add electric guitar to the remainder of the set. Taz’s sit-in started with Widespread Panic’s “All Time Low,” which segued into Hartford’s “All Fall Down” and led to a lengthy jam. The collaboration and improvisation continued with “Pyramid Country” and the set-ending cover of Blackfoot’s “Train, Train.”

Strings and his band mates, mandolinist Jarrod Walker, bassist Royal Masat and banjoist Billy Failing, returned to Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday night and opened with “Taking Water.” A pair of Bill Monroe tunes, “Shenandoah Breakdown” and “My Sweet Blue-Eyed Darlin’” followed. Strings covered John Phillips’ Grateful Dead staple “Me & My Uncle,” as well as David Grisman’s “Unwanted Love” during the set that included the Home tracks “Running,” “Enough T Leave” and “Long Forgotten Dream.” The set ended with the title track to Strings’ 2017 album, Turmoil & Tinfoil.

“On The Line” kicked off the second set Saturday and transitioned into The Stanleys’ “Train 45.” Jackson Browne’s classic “Running On Empty” came next, and then it was a sequence of originals, “Thirst Mutilator,” “So Many Miles,” “Watch It Fall,” “Slow Train,” “Away From the Mire,” “Home” and “Meet Me at the Creek.” Billy’s Brooklyn Bowl run concluded with “Freedom.” Watch pro-shot video of Friday’s concert provided by The Relix Channel and audience shot video of Saturday’s concert posted by Jay Moskowitz below:
