Billy Joel unveiled a new song today. “Turn The Lights Back On” marks the legendary singer-songwriter’s first new music since 2007.
While he has continued to perform, Billy Joel has not released a new song since his 2007 double release “All My Life” and “Christmas in Fallujah.” His last new studio album was 1993’s River of Dreams, which closes with the song, “Famous Last Words,” signaling that he was done with songwriting.

A preview video for “Turn The Lights Back On” posted to Joel’s social media began with a page turning on the famous last words of his “Famous Last Words” cut. “Turn The Lights Back On” is a heartfelt tune addressing Joel’s separation from songwriting. The lyrics express both regret and hope, “Did I wait too long/To turn the lights back on,” he sings.

Five-time Grammy-winner Billy Joel will perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday. The artist also has stadium concerts with Stevie Nicks, Sting and Rod Stewart later this year along with the final shows of his historic Madison Square Garden residency.
