Billy Joel made his debut at the recently opened Intuit Dome outside Los Angeles on Saturday night. The Piano Man’s concert featured surprise drop-ins by John Mayer and Axl Rose.
Mayer emerged near the middle of Joel’s main set. Prior to bringing Mayer to the stage, Joel introduced the guest Dead & Company guitarist.
“This is a great guitarist,” Joel said. “I admire this guy’s chops. He’s got this fluid technique, he’s great. Please welcome, John Mayer!”

Mayer then demonstrated his fluid style with a performance of “This Is the Time.” Mayer had previously joined Joel onstage to perform the song from the latter’s 1986 album, The Bridge, which ended up on Joel’s live album, Live at Shea Stadium.

A few songs after Mayer’s guest spot, Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose was summoned to the stage by Joel. As he did recently at the final show of Joel’s historic residency at MSG, Rose assisted on a cover of Paul McCartney’s “Live And Let Die,” which has been a staple of GNR performances for decades.
Mayer and Rose were not the only guests to appear onstage with Joel at the Intuit Dome on Saturday. Joel’s 9-year-old daughter Della Rose Joel came out to accompany her father on a touching performance of “My Life.”
