Dead & Company drummer Bill Kreutzmann confirmed he tested positive for COVID-19. The 76-year-old co-founding member of the Grateful Dead has been absent from recent Dead & Co. shows, with drummer Jay Lane filling in.

Kreutzmann stated his COVID-19 symptoms were mild and that he’s currently testing negative. While reassuring his absence was temporary, Kreutzmann indicated he was not yet back to full show strength needed to rejoin Dead & Company.

The tour has been challenging for Kreutzmann, who also suffered a back injury that forced him to miss portions of the band’s recent concerts. Three shows remain on Dead & Company’s current Summer Tour 2022. The band, which also features Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart along with guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, performs tonight (Tuesday, July 12) in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania followed by two shows in New York City this Friday and Saturday.
