Pink Talking Fish led a New Year’s Eve concert at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts Sunday night. The Pink Floyd/Talking Heads/Phish tribute act billed the show “Big Ball Jam” and were joined by Keller Williams, Percy Hill and Bearly Dead.
The Boston-based Grateful Dead tribute Bearly Dead kicked off the action by welcoming attendees entering the venue with a performance on a side stage. The group provided additional sets of music between main stage acts.
The main stage performances began with Percy Hill. The group welcomed Williams to the stage ahead of his set and KDub added scatting to a drums breakdown within “TUMZ.” Keller followed Percy Hill’s set with a solo performance on the main stage.
Pink Talking Fish headlined the main stage and opened their set at 11:30 p.m. A half-hour later the band closed out 2017 with Phish’s “First Tube” that led to the countdown and the ushering in of 2018. Living up to its “Big Ball Jam” billing, the massive balloon dropped coinciding with “Auld Lang Syne” included three 12-foot diameter beach balls. PTF launched into “Big Balls” by AC/DC before giving a go at “Big Ball Jam” in the same fashion Phish used to perform the improvised segment as they jammed in sync with the oversized inflatables bouncing around the room.
Keller reemerged once more to join PTF during a take on Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself.” The guest stuck around for a rendition of “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” by Talking Heads as well.
