Backstage Video | Taj Mahal & Tedeschi Trucks – Leaving Trunk

By Scott Bernstein Sep 22, 2014 11:30 am PDT

On Friday and Saturday night the Tedeschi Trucks Band began a four-show run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City that has featured a number of special guests so far. Friday’s show saw guest spots from Jerry Douglas, Taj Mahal and Jaimoe of The Allman Brothers Band, while Jimmy Herring and Duane Trucks sat in on Saturday night. A backstage video from Friday has surfaced and we’re sure you’ll love it as much as we have.

In the video below, we find Taj Mahal and Jerry Douglas rehearsing “Leaving Trunk” with the Tedeschi Trucks Band backstage at the Beacon on Friday night. Taj first recorded the Sleepy John Estes-penned “Leaving Trunk” for his self-titled 1968 debut. It’s become one of his trademark songs and Derek Trucks and other members of The TTB sport huge grins as Taj shows them how it’s done. Be sure to make it through the whole thing for Taj’s philosophy on the song. Take a look:

The Tedeschi Trucks Band return to the Beacon Theatre this Friday and Saturday nights. Limited tickets remain as of press time at Ticketmaster.
