The Avett Brothers Close Out Impressive Three-Night Capitol Theatre Run

Last night The Avett Brothers closed out their three-night run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The Americana-act treated their fans to a total of 82 unique songs, with just four repeats – “Satan Pulls The Strings,” “True Sadness,” “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise” and “Ain’t No Man” – over the course of their run at the historic venue.

Last night’s lengthy affair saw the North Carolina-based band offer up tunes from nine of their studio releases, along with a handful of cover tunes. The band’s 21-song main set offered something for everyone mixing fan-favorites like “Kick Drum Heart,” “Murder In The City,” ” January Wedding” and “Live And Die” with a number of deeper-cut classics from their early releases with “The Traveling Song,” “Colorshow” and “Nothing Short of Thankful,” along with a cover of George Harrison’s “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)” from The Beatle’s 1973 solo album Living In A Material World.

When The Avett Brothers returned to the stage they kicked off their eight-song encore with a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time,” which they debuted on New Year’s Eve of last year. The band also used the opportunity to nod to the Cap’s long-standing history with the Grateful Dead with a pair of covers. First up was their take on “Deal,” which the Dead actually debuted at the Capitol Theatre on February 19, 1971. Following a pair of old-school bluegrass tunes “Blackberry Blossom” and “The Coo Coo Song,” The Avetts offered up their version of “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad,” which was more inline with the traditional version than the Dead’s interpretation. The band closed out the night with a tender take on “Life” from their 2012 release The Carpenter.
