The Avett Brothers Perform ‘Pretty’ Set At Avett Brothers At The Beach 2020 Opener

The Avett Brothers played the first of three shows at their Avett Brothers At The Beach 2020 destination event on Thursday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. In keeping with the “Pretty Girls & Guys From” theme, the band performed five songs with “Pretty” or “Prettiest” in the title within their 22-tune concert.

Dawes kicked off the event before The Avett Brothers took the stage. Fittingly, The Avetts opened with “At The Beach.” Technical difficulties marred the “Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full Of Promise” that followed, however, fans sang the song while the sound cut out. The first surprise of the night came in the form of George Strait’s “Ocean Front Property,” which was the first since its debut on October 5, 2013 as per db.nov.blue. A string of staples followed ahead of “The Prettiest Thing,” the evening’s initial “Pretty” tune.

Next up was rarity “Black, Blue” which was last played on September 29, 2018. The Avetts then dusted off “Pretty Girl From Annapolis” for the first time since August 16, 2018 and included a bit of Donovan’s “Catch The Wind” within. Another “pretty” song came a few tunes later as “Pretty Girl From San Diego” returned after nearly two years. “Morning Song” and “Satan Pulls The Strings” were then followed by just the second “Pretty Girl At The Airport” since 2018. A run of “Old Joe Clark,” “Talk On Indolence” and “Hand-Me-Down Tune” closed out the set. The Avetts had one more “pretty” song in store as the encore started with “Pretty Girl From Matthews” — last played on July 9, 2017 — and ended with “The Perfect Space.”
