Longtime Austin-based country outfit Asleep at the Wheel appeared on the first episode of ACL’s first regular season in 1976 and returned 10 more times over the last five decades. Both Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel are Austin City Limits Hall of Fame members.
The livestreamed ACL 50th Birthday Bash will see Willie Nelson & Family and Asleep at the Wheel performing on the lawn of Austin’s Long Center framed by Austin’s skyline, which has been the iconic backdrop for the show over the years.
Additionally, ACL is partnering with the renowned Austin institution Armadillo World Headquarters (AWHQ), which recently relaunched as a purpose-driven brand supporting Austin artists. As ACL’s official Watch Party partner for the event, AWHQ will livestream the show at several venues across Austin including the newly opened Armadillo Forever space at the South Congress Hotel and the famed Arlyn Studios.
Armadillo World Headquarters closed as a venue on New Year’s Eve 1980. Willie Nelson and Asleep At The Wheel were the final performers. Head here for more info on ACL’s 50th Birthday Bash livestreams.
