When Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit kicks off their 2024 Tour over the next four nights, the band will have a different look. Proud new papa Sadler Vaden will sit out this week’s shows with Audley Freed stepping into the lead guitar role in his absence.

Audley Freed is best known as Sheryl Crow‘s longtime guitarist. Freed has also toured or recorded with an impressive roster of artists including The Black Crowes, Gov’t Mule, The Chicks and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit featuring Audley Freed covering for Sadler Vaden start the excursion on Wednesday, January 17 at Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Missouri. Freed will also perform with the band in Lawrence, Kansas this Thursday, January 18 and in Oklahoma City on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20.

Sadler Vaden shared the following statement regarding his brief paternity leave on Instagram, noting:

I’m writing to let you know I won’t be present at the 4 shows this week in Springfield, MO, Lawrence, KS and Oklahoma City, OH. I’m taking some time with family as we just recently welcomed our newest addition, Theodore. Taking me place in the interim is the one and only Audley Freed. Hontest I wish I could be there just to witness a hero of mine rip it down with one of the best rock and roll bands going today. I’m not going anywhere, and I’ll be rejoining the band in mid February to resume our regularly scheduled programming. Thanks for your understanding in advance, and rock on.
