Arcade Fire debuted a new song entitled “Generation A” during an appearance on an election night special hosted by Stephen Colbert. Showtime aired the performance as part of Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand: Building Back America Great Again Better 2020.
The band consisting of Will Butler, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Jeremy Gara, Tim Kingsbury and Richard Reed Parry assembled in a studio to film the “Generation A” performance that premiered on Tuesday night. “And now, debuting their new song ‘Generation A’ inspired by the current climate of the country with a hopeful message to the youths, Arcade Fire,” Colbert said in introducing the band.
The performance began with footage of a youngster walking into the studio and proclaiming, “This is ‘Generation A’ and we’re not gonna wait” before dropping his mic. Win Butler revealed Arcade Fire are recording the follow-up to 2017’s Everything Now in Texas and that he wrote “two or three” albums worth of material while locked down during an appearance on Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast as per NME.
