Aqueous Announces New Album ‘Color Wheel’

Buffalo-based jam quartet Aqueous will issue the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Cycles on October 12. Color Wheel features 10 tracks, eight of which the band has yet to perform live.

“Color Wheel feels like a step forward for the band in every way,” Aqueous guitarist/keyboardist David Loss said in a press release announcing the album. “We tapped into a distinctly more emotional and purposeful space when writing it, and there’s a raw honesty throughout the album’s lyrics and themes that I think a lot of people can relate to. Though some of those themes are a little heavier, there’s a constant thread of hopeful optimism that we hope people will really connect with. Musically, the band has evolved and Color Wheel finds us exploring some new and very exciting musical lanes.”

The album contains studio versions of live staples “Second Sight” and “Weight Of The Word” along with the previously unheard material. Both songs were debuted by the band last year. The studio version of “Weight Of The Word” includes contributions from the Turkuaz horn section.

Aqueous will unveil tracks from Color Wheel in three waves with the first wave expected soon. Guitarist Mike Gantzer explains the decision to release material from the forthcoming concept album in particular batches:

“There’s a certain continuity to this entire album, and it unfolds in a way that makes the track order important for the experience – there’s an underlying narrative happening throughout the lyrics and themes, and the overarching theme of the story is a strong sense of optimism through the struggle of the realities of life. For this reason, we wanted to release the album in waves, ultimately, to give people a chance to settle into each section of the album and digest it thoroughly before diving into the next.”

Color Wheel is currently available for prer-order on vinyl via Bandcamp. Aqueous embarks on an extensive tour in support of the album this fall.
