The Who Announces ‘My Generation’ Reissue Featuring 3 New Songs

Veteran rockers The Who have detailed the upcoming reissue of their 1965 debut album My Generation which features three previously unreleased songs from the era. Due out on November 18, a demo of the never-before-heard Pete Townshend-penned “The Girls I Could Have Had” has been shared in advance of the reissue’s release.

The updated My Generation is available in a variety of formats, including a 79-track 5-CD Super Deluxe Edition, and 3-LP and 2-LP vinyl editions (the vinyl editions will be out on February 10). Along with the newly shared demo, the Super Deluxe Edition also includes Townshend’s rough recordings of “As Children We Grew” and “My Own Love” which he discovered on tapes in his archive last year and realized they were songs even his band mates had not heard. Townshend stated:

Gathering these demos for this collection has been enjoyable; it’s wonderful for me to have these tapes made fifty-two years ago to listen to. I hope you enjoy them. They have a naiveté and innocence, a simplicity and directness, and an ingenuousness that reveals me as a young man struggling to keep up with the more mature and developed men around me. What an incredible group of strong, talented, young and engaging men they were!

The super deluxe set also comes with previously unreleased alternate mixes and new remasters as well as an 80-page book and other ephemera. There’s also a new stereo remix featuring new overdubs by Townshend using the exact same guitars and amps as he did in 1965 and frontman Roger Daltrey utilizing the same type of microphone.
