Animal Collective canceled the remaining May and June tour dates on their current U.S. trek with as members Deakin (Josh Gibb) and Avey Tare (Dave Portner) are sick with COVID-19. “Continuing to tour at this moment would be harmful to their health and could contribute to longer term difficulties,” wrote the band as part of a statement on social media.
“Know that this is not a decision we make lightly; we were looking forward to playing for you in all of these cities, and we are working on making it up to you as soon as possible,” explained Animal Collective. “We will see you in August.”
Animal Collective last played on May 20 in Los Angeles. Subsequent concerts in San Francisco on May 21, Portland on May 23 and Spokane on May 24 were canceled. The band previously noted the decision came to postpone those dates after “a member of our touring party has tested positive for Covid.”
