Out today from Amythyst Kiah is “I Will Not Go Down,” a new single featuring guitarist Billy Strings. The track appears on the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album, Still + Bright, set for release on October 25 via Rounder Records.
Recorded with producer/contributor Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Green Day, Weezer), the 12-track follow-up to 2021’s Wary + Strange was captured at his Nashville studio. Still + Bright also features guest appearances by Avi Kaplan and S.G. Goodman. The latter contributed to the album’s lead single, “Play God and Destroy The World.”

Nashville resident Billy Strings added frenetic picking and strumming to “I Will Not Go Down.” The song is anthemic due to its barn-burning nature and the lyrics tell a tale of personal reflection and redemption.
Amythyst Kiah shared the following of her second Still + Bright preview
“From Avatar: The Last Airbender to Lord of the Rings to Mass Effect, I’ve always loved a great hero’s journey. The hero always rides into the unknown to seek answers and destroy a larger beast. These stories emphasize the importance of reflection, resilience, and restraint. Sometimes we have to ride into the unknown to seek these answers and see what we’re truly made of, without stopping to think that perhaps the beast that we are slaying, is in fact ourselves. I was incredibly stoked to have Billy Strings join in on this track and take us on his own journey, creating the most radiant guitar tapestry that could blind any foe that dares to cross him.
“I read about the Crusades in high school, and I was disgusted at the prospect of coercing people or brainwashing people into spilling an insurmountable amount of blood thinking they were serving their God, when in fact they were simply doing the bidding of warmongers dressed in robes. I wrote the chorus in my high school journal and all these years later it makes an appearance for all the world to see. It’s about people pleasing to a fault, and reclaiming autonomy and trying pull yourself out of a hole.”
