Amy Helm will perform songs from her new album What the Flood Leaves Behind from Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York on Thursday, June 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT via her Facebook page and YouTube channel just ahead of the album’s release on June 18. The singer-songwriter also appeared on JamBase partner Osiris Media Network podcast Eric Krasno Plus One, where she talked about the new LP and shared stories about her late father The Band’s Levon Helm and more.

The Eric Krasno Plus One podcast begins with Amy talking a bit about playing mandolin before the musicians get into a discussion about the album with Krasno and Helm touting producer Josh Kaufman’s studio chops. “Josh’s production…really shines on the whole thing,” Amy said. “He was extraordinary to work with to me, I had a great experience.”

Helm and Krasno also talk about filming performance videos of tracks from What The Flood Leaves Behind in Levon Helm’s storied The Barn and some renovations that have taken place there. Amy also shares some history on The Barn and participating in the legendary Midnight Ramble jam sessions. Helm also talks about growing up around The Band, although she didn’t quite realize the gravity of what she was experiencing until she was older. “I didn’t quite understand how cool it was,” she said. “You don’t know how cool it really is till you’re like 30 or 40 and you’re like ‘wow.’”

Amy goes on to tell a story about listening to The Band’s landmark debut album Music From Big Pink while riding the bus to school in New York City. “I wasn’t listening to that record thinking, ‘this is my dad and those are the guys,'” she recalled. “I had this very impersonal kind of objective falling in love with their music as a fan.” Amy also tells an amazing story about a similar epiphany she had remembering Joni Mitchell’s appearance at The Band’s legendary The Last Waltz concert as part of the fascinating interview.

Additionally, Amy discusses her band Ollabelle, working with T Bone Burnett and more. Listen to Amy Helm’s appearance on Eric Krasno’s Plus One podcast below and tune into her performance from Levon Helm Studios on Thursday.
