Amanda Shires released a new single, “Empty Cups” featuring Maren Morris. The song is set for Shires’ upcoming album, Take It Like A Man, due out on July 29 via ATO Records.

Amanda Shires announced the Lawrence Rothman-produced Take It Like A Man in May and shared the lead single “Hawk For The Dove,” which sees Amanda’s husband Jason Isbell on guitar. Other guests on the album include Brittney Spencer and Shires’ The Highwomen bandmates Natalie Hemby and Maren Morris.

Morris appears on the third single from Take It Like A Man as well as Isbell. Consequence premiered a live performance video for the song and described it as “a lyrical tour-de-force, as the narrator’s focus becomes hooked on shimmering details that seem important in the wake of a calamity.” And added: “When Morris joins in the chorus…her delicate voice floats above Shires’ powerful belt like smoke over glowing hot coals.”

“I recorded ‘Empty Cups’ after everyone left because I didn’t want to accidentally cry or get a shaky voice in front of my friends,” Shires revealed. “I asked Maren to sing on this one because our voices blend like sisters and because I knew that wherever my voice wavered, she’d be steady.”
