Multi-instrumentalist Allison Russell is featured in the latest installment of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert video series. The Montreal-based singer-songwriter played a four-song set accompanied by six musicians at Bob Boilen’s desk at the NPR Music offices in Washington D.C.
Russell was joined by SistaStrings (Monique Ross and Chauntee Ross) as well as cello player Larissa Maestro, drummer Megan Coleman and guitarists Mandy Fer and Joy Clark for her Tiny Desk Concert performance. Allison led the troupe through “Quasheba, Quasheba” from her time in supergroup Our Native Daughters with Leyla McCalla and Rhiannon Giddens to kick off the session.
The set continued with “4th Day Prayer” and “Nightflyer,” two standout tracks from Russell’s fantastic debut solo album, Outside Child. Allison and her band then returned to the Our Native Daughters repertoire for the “You’re Not Alone” that closed the performance and saw Russell sing in Québécois French. A new version of the song featuring Brandi Carlile came out earlier this month.
“A dream come true! Wildly grateful – and we had so much fun,” Russell wrote on Twitter of the experience. Watch Allison Russell’s Tiny Desk Concert below:
