Banjoists Alison Brown and Steve Martin tapped guitarist Vince Gill for their new single, “Wall Guitar (Since You Said Goodbye).” The trio recorded a performance of the new track that aired on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“I’ve known Alison since I was 19 years old — what a joy to watch her become the musician she is,” Gill said of the collaboration. “And Steve Martin has made me laugh for 50 years. On top of that, he’s an amazing banjo player. What a great experience it was to record this song with them.”

Brown, Martin and Gill were backed by a collective of talented Nashville musicians, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, Rob Burger on accordion/piano, Garry West on bass, Jordan Perlson on percussion and Andrea Zonn supplying harmony vocals.
“Alison and I have a highly creative and enjoyable musical ‘thang’ going on,” Martin said. “And to have Vince Gill as well as some of the finest musicians in Nashville join us is the ultimate icing on the bluegrass cake.”
Brown, Martin and Gill recorded a special live performance of “Wall Guitar (Since You Said Goodbye)” in Nashville at Compass Sound Studio, which premiered on The Kelly Clarkson Show. The episode also featured an appearance by Brown and Martin, who showed off their impressive banjo-picking skills for host Kelly Clarkson.
“Steve has such a great instinct for crafting strong melodies and it’s almost effortless to pick up on his melodic thread and carry the idea forward,” Brown explained. “What was amazing to me, though, was to see the lyrics come together. I was really struck by the emotional intimacy Steve conjured.”
