Renowned rock band Rush last performed live in 2015 at the conclusion of their 40th anniversary R40 Tour. Plenty of speculation has come up since that performance regarding the future of the Canadian trio, but according to guitarist Alex Lifeson, Rush is “basically done.”
Rush’s last live concert was on August 1, 2015 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Since then Lifeson revealed the band would no longer tour, and both he and bassist Geddy Lee later discussed drummer Neil Peart’s retirement and reluctance to perform one-off shows.
In a first-person essay written for The Globe and Mail series Between the Acts, Lifeson begins by stating:
It’s been a little over two years since Rush last toured. We have no plans to tour or record any more. We’re basically done. After 41 years, we felt it was enough.

Lifeson goes on to describe other projects that have kept the 64-year-old guitarist busy since the band’s final show. The article details some of the writing projects Lifeson’s participated in as well as some acting he’s done. Head to The Globe And Mail to read the full essay.
