AEG Live Plotting New ‘Panorama’ Festival For New York City

One of the world’s biggest promoters, AEG Live, is setting its sights on New York City. The Daily News reports the company is bringing a festival tentatively dubbed “Panorama” to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens next June. The fest is said to be among the biggest events to be held in Queens since the 1964 World’s Fair.

AEG Live either presents or has a hand in presenting a bevy of festivals including Coachella, FYF Fest and Sunfest. “Panorama” would be in direct competition with the Governor’s Ball Festival as according to the Daily News the new event would take place two weeks after the independently-run Governor’s Ball. “The timing of this corporate- run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy,” Tom Russell of the team that puts on Governor’s Ball told the Daily News.

As the Daily News points out this wouldn’t be AEG’s first attempt to bring a festival to the area. In 2008 and 2009 the company presented two under-attended installments of an event dubbed “All Points West.” Stay tuned as this story develops.
