AC/DC Bassist Cliff Williams To Retire After Current Tour

Longtime bassist Cliff Williams has revealed plans to retire from the legendary rock band. According to a recent interview, the band’s current Rock Or Bust Tour will be his last.

Williams joined AC/DC in 1977, replacing founding bassist Mark Evans and has played with the Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers ever since. AC/DC has recently undergone several lineup changes, with founding guitarist Malcolm Young leaving the band in 2014 due to health issues and Brian Johnson being replaced this year by Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose after doctors told Johnson to retire from touring or face permanent hearing loss. Drummer Phil Rudd’s recent house arrest and replacement in AC/DC also influenced Williams’ desire to call it quits.

“It’s been what I’ve known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I’m backing off of touring and recording,” Williams told GulfShore Life. “Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it’s a changed animal. I feel in my gut it’s the right thing. When you start out, you kind of hope for success. That’s what you are working for. But you never really know. It’s been surreal, really.”

The Rock Or Bust Tour is slated to resume August 27 at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. Currently, the final concert planned for the tour is the September 20 show at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
