4th Of July Playlist: American Cities & States
Today marks Independence Day in the United States in honor of the signing of the Declaration Of Independence on July 4, 1776. The 4th Of July this year comes during a global pandemic and continued protests against systemic racism happening around the world in response to George Floyd and other Black Americans dying due to the actions of the police.
The typical holiday spent grilling with friends and family and watching fireworks displays will be anything but typical today as many continue to maintain social distancing. Saturday Stream would normally be a soundtrack of patriotic songs perfect for soundtracking a backyard barbeque or while watching exploding colors in the sky. Instead, the featured playlist presents 50 songs whose titles are simply the names of U.S. cities and states.
Cities from Aberdeen to Tallahassee, Tucumcari to Tupelo, Malibu to Manhattan and from elsewhere around the country are represented by the likes of Phish, Neil Young, Grateful Dead (covering Marty Robbins), Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, moe., Umphrey’s McGee, Greensky Bluegrass, Lotus, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Lucinda Williams, Jimmy Herring, Railroad Earth, Neal Casal, Trampled By Turtles, Fruition, Gillian Welch, The Lil Smokies, Drive-By Truckers and several others.
